Bupa : London to Brighton

A Collaborative Climate Ride between private healthcare led by Bupa

International healthcare company Bupa is organising a 70-mile ride from their Central London head office to their office in Brighton.

Their riders will be 12 clinical and sustainability leaders who will follow a route comprised of 10 different health and care sites.

At each of these sites the riders will stop to meet with healthcare colleagues for much-needed refreshments and a discussion about:

1. the relationship between the health of people and the health of the planet

2. what steps Bupa is taking to reduce our own impact on the environment and

3. the role that healthcare professionals need to play and action they can take.

The sites include a Bupa hospital, dental practice, care home and health clinic, in addition to HCA Portland, Spire Montefiore, Nuffield Haywards Heath and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Two of the Bupa riders will have air purifying systems from start-up company GoRolloe fitted to their bike wheels. This technology uses existing energy from vehicles and wind to filter air from polluted areas as we ride.

This ride is a great example of the UK private healthcare sector coming together to raise awareness about the links between climate change and health, and emphasise the role that healthcare providers must play in order to drive positive change. This includes using our trusted voices as healthcare professionals to advocate for a healthy planet for healthier people and contributing to keeping the global temperatures rise to a maximum of 1.5C, to avoid catastrophic consequences for people and nature.
